The Balvenie PortWood 21 year old single malt whisky. As the story goes I inadvertently purchased a dram at a local sports bar it turned out to be 31 dollars. I had a contractor who did work on my kitchen, after he completed the job he bought me a bottle!
The price for this magnificent expression is 200-250 a bottle. Its worth every penny. The distillery is located in Dufftown, in the heart of Speyside the place is surrounded by all the history of single malt whisky making in the world.
The
Balvenie lies in the Convals in Dufftown. The distillery was built by William Grant just below Glenfiddich in 1892, sharing its water source, the Robbie Dhu springs, with its illustrious neighbour. Despite also having the same distiller, Balvenie is hugely different in character. It is one of the few Scotch distilleries to boast in-house floor maltings, utilizing locally hand-cut peat. The floor maltings at Balvenie also supply neighbouring Glenfiddich.
The Balvenie 21 has been well awarded throughout the world.
The Balvenie PortWood Aged 21 Years is non chill-filtered and bottled at a higher strength of 47.6% abv.
TASTING NOTES NOSE A perfume of fruity and ripe raisin notes, backed by a nutty dryness. Delicate with an ever so light wisp of smoke.
TASTE Refined with remarkable character, it is creamy and silky with fruit, honey and spice notes.
FINISH Long, gentle, nutty.
